A Hindhu is essentially a religious person. He owes his Birth, Survival, Death and Afterlife to his ancestors, who are essentially the followers of Hindhu Dieties. Since, the ancestors of Hindhus are the worshippers of the Trinity, i.e, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, it is construed that they are the followers of Hindhu Dharma.

The Hindhu Dharma is a Vast ocean in terms of the coverage and knowledge of this cosmos. Hindhu Dharma has many Rituals in its fold. And Hindhus when they are born, do Hindhu Rituals which sanctify them as Hindhus. They do Hindhu Rituals when they are living and afterdeath ... and afterlife also, there are prescribed Hindhu Rituals which are required to be Followed and Observed.

Generally, in the Hindhu Society, we see three classes of Hindhus, worshipping three main Hindhu Dharma Dhevathas:
First ... The Shaivas, who worship Shiva as their Diety. For Shaivas, worshipping Vinayaka is compulsory. Shiva has many names, like Shivam, Shivoham, Rudhram, Shali, vagera who are all Shivaganas.
Second ... The Vaishnavas, who worship Vishnu as their Diety. For Vaishnavas, worshipping Garuda is compulsory. Vishnu has many names like Srimahavishnu, Ram, Krishna, Kalki, Vagera, who are all Vishnupurushas. Brahma is considered with Vishnu always.
Third ... The Dheviyas, who worship Dhurga as their Diety. For Dheviyas, worshipping Bhavani is compulsory. Dhurga has many names like Mahishasura Mardhini, Chowdeshwari, Navadhurga, vagera.

A Hindhu owes his Hindhuness because of his ancestors, who worshipped one of the Hindhu Dharma Dhevathas during their lifetimes. When a hindhu is born, then a Hindhu Ritual called Aksharabhyasam is done, worshipping their Kuladhaivam, who essentially belong to Shaiva, Vaishnava or Dheviya Parampara.

Hence, a Hindhu is expected to understand who their Kuladhaivam is and worship them ... this is called Dhaiva Parampara ... which is similar to the Guru Parampara that Hindhu Dharma is known for.

There are some prescribed Hindhu Rituals that a Hindhu is expected to follow ... which are sanctioned by their Kuladhaivam.

In society, as a Hindhu, you can worship any of the Hindhu Dharma Dhevathas, namely Shiva, Vishnu or Dhevi ... even though you may be a Shivate, Vishnavite or a Dhevite. But, a Hindhu Guru would never prescribe leaving your Kuladhaivam, as you owe your existence because of your Kuladhaivam.

But, a true Hindhu would never discourage the worship of the Hindhu Dhevathas other than his belonging, as they all are ultimately the manifestations of the Aadhipurusha that Hindhu Grandhas praise of.

In Hindhu Dharma, its is advised that a Hindhu must have his/her own Personal Diety and atleast One Shloka related to his diety. This a Hindhu has to follow lifelong and afterlife also, as this is how the Athma Hindhukaran of the athma that he/she is happens.

A Hindhu is expected to have Vinayam ... when he has interactions with the Hindhu Dieties, which is an essential part of Hindhu Dharma. Please note, that Performing Hindhu Rituals is considered as having interactions with the Hindhu Dieties. It is to be noted that Great Hindhu Gurus in history were having Vinayam when they had interactions with their dieties.
